Goodnight Woodward (2021)
Goodnight Woodward is a farewell letter to my childhood home and neighbourhood. This project aims to examine what it looks like to part with a place tied up in memory through the lens of gentrification. The play on nostalgia is written in short anecdotes loosely following the writing structure of Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown, a beloved children’s book. This was my way of expressing my feelings towards the finality of unexpectedly having to say goodbye.
goodnight bright street lights, guiding me home as i stumble over my own feet
goodnight mcdonald's, teasing me after drunk nights in my backyard
goodnight wading pool, hosting the earliest memory i can remember
goodnight jungle gym, goodnight mud pies
goodnight small hill, providing a meeting spot that concealed the smoke of my teen years
goodnight swing set, my go-to runaway spot
goodbye apartments behind my house, the home to many of my childhood friends
keep the light on 'til i can say, goodnight
