“Ay nako, Lola” (2022)
My, Lola, is the eldest daughter of 13 and is the monarch of my family. She is the reason many of my family members were able to immigrate from the Philippines to Canada. In navigating my experiences within the diaspora, documentation understands the importance of family and the ways in which we stay connected to our heritage.
My grandmother began living with my family a few years ago. During this ongoing pandemic, I found myself questioning the ways in which people leave marks in shared spaces and the role those objects play in representing tradition. Found still lives and portraits come together in this project to create a documentation of my Lola.
